Namibia Game Farm

Namibia, located between the cold Atlantic and the scorching Kalahari, is a land of real contrasts. The bushveld can be found in the Kavango and Caprivi areas in the north. The country is dominated by the Namib Desert, which extends along Namibia's entire Atlantic Coast. The Caprivi in the north has lush wooden and riverine forest, as well a seasonal flood plains which is the home of the Etosha National Park which guarantees spectacular game view.

Between all the desert towns of Keetmanshoop and Okahandja are some startlingly beautiful places and true hospitality that can only be found on a Namibia Game Farm. At Keetmanshoop there is game farm where the owners farmed sheep and goats, but realizing that tourists were wanting to see the unique rock formations in the area, they added a lodge, pool, 4x4 routes and meals and converted their farm into a haven for wild animals such as Eland, cheetah and warthogs, and travellers flock to it! Oppikoppi, which was once a sheep farm, had all its fences taken down and was turned into a thriving game farm. It is perched on a cliff edge and the bungalows have their stoeps on their roofs, from where one can view the astounding variety of buck. Other farms that have changed over to game farming is Khan River Lodge, which was once a cattle farm, but here too the fences have been removed and the game roams free. They have luxury lodge accommodation, or if you really want to experience the African bush a little closer, you can camp in their beautiful campsite along the Khan River where one can take a shower looking right out onto the river! At Rhoboth there is a game farm on the edge of sparkling waters, which is a surprise really in dry southern Namibia. The original resort has been turned into a Namibia game farm which has a restaurant, bar and camp site as well as self-catering chalets whose views over Lake Oanob allow one some classic sunsets. The road to Düsternbrook farm wanders through tall thorn trees and over a stream until you reach an old homestead with old outbuildings of 100 years old which have been converted into elegant guest rooms. The owner was also once a cattle farmer but his love for leopards and cheetah caused him to fence off certain areas and now this game farm provides game drives offering spectacular sightings of these cats. Hiking and horse trails are also available for those more active guests. Another Namibia game farm is Ongava Nature Reserve on the southern border of Etosha on a 120 kilometer long salt pan. It has a couple of lodges, one being a tented camp, and from here you can take excursions into Etosha. The tented campsite is set in a valley of mopane woodland and close to the lodge's deck is a waterhole that promises constant game viewing, the likes which have never been seen elsewhere, as the animals literally throng and queue at the waters to drink.

Namibia, a primordial place, where one is privileged to be a part, and where so many of its inhabitants have seen the light and converted cattle or sheep farms to a Namibia game farm, giving tourists the chance to capture some peace once more.
